The Tristes Tropiques Levi-Strauss
Nico Carlucci
In October of 2009 left a big 's Anthropology: Claude Levi-Strauss. The scholar of the "savage mind" is experienced by dedicating his work to people, the indigenous tribes of Brazil, which apparently, according to many, are "different" from us. Certainly, his approach to the "other" is the result of an impassive where often missing man. In this, perhaps, its limit. But, of course, his comments, his ratings, his analysis of cultural systems are essential for those who want to approach this "strange" that science and anthropology. How can we forget, then, a monument which the series mythology in which his "look away" shows the structures of the cultures, the system of myths and the symbolic figures of many stories that the anthropologist and learn, "he writes." The cold
"structuralism" of Levi-Strauss, mechanical treatment, does not allow, however, the birth of his own school of thought.
When working on his essay, "The Raw and the Cooked," he certainly supported the work of Marcel Mauss on the gift. What mattered to him, however, was the formal aspect, the structure "Savage" myth, in fact, objections, the archetypal image of "timeless" because, ultimately, no story. And then the cold I mentioned earlier, the "nostalgia" for the lands of Mato Grosso, for Nambikwara.
But the timing and intuition of structuralism of Levi-Strauss, they forgot the soul, the diachrony of cultural models with their "long duration".
Other anthropologists have found, conversely, the history of cultures, the "spreads" silent constants, roles, values, symbolic and concrete people.
But Levi-Strauss is certainly a classic of science culture.
arise, the day after his death questions, new and "old" at a time: where is Anthropology? where do we stand with the subject?
I hope to address in their web with the web and the thousand questions that culturology brings with it the era of the global, in a permanent becoming.
